Twenty-three Units at Wellington at Madison Achieve Prestigious LEED Platinum Certification
HOPE Partnership and The Caleb Group Celebrate Milestone in Sustainable Affordable Housing
Madison, CT – August 1, 2025 – The Caleb Group and HOPE Partnership, Inc. are proud to announce that four building for a total of 23 units at Wellington at Madison have officially achieved LEED® Platinum certification, the highest rating awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council. This significant milestone underscores both organizations’ longstanding commitment to creating affordable housing that is not only high-quality and inclusive, but also environmentally responsible.
LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. LEED Platinum certification recognizes buildings that meet rigorous standards in energy efficiency, water conservation, indoor air quality, sustainable materials, and innovative design. These features reduce environmental impact, lower utility costs, and create healthier living environments for residents.
“LEED Platinum is more than just a label—it reflects a deep commitment to environmental stewardship and long-term sustainability,” said Karla Lindquist, Executive Director of HOPE Partnership. “We're proud to bring that level of care and intentionality to affordable housing here on the Connecticut shoreline.”
Wellington at Madison is a thoughtfully designed mixed-income community offering 31 one- and two-bedroom apartments, including 24 affordable rental homes. Located just off Route 1 and within walking distance of beaches, public transportation, and local shops, the property exemplifies how affordable housing can blend seamlessly with its surrounding environment—both socially and ecologically.
“Environmental responsibility is a core value at The Caleb Group,” said Shawn Smitley, Executive Director. “This LEED Platinum certification affirms that it is possible—and necessary—to integrate green building practices into affordable housing development. We’re grateful to our partners for making this shared vision a reality.”
The project was made possible through the dedication and collaboration of numerous partners including the Town of Madison, whose leadership and support helped make environmentally sound affordable housing a priority. The organizations also extend their appreciation to Haynes Construction Company and Schadler Selnau Associates, which brought this vision to life with expertise and attention to sustainable construction practices.
Wellington at Madison continues to be a beacon for what’s possible when affordable housing meets environmental innovation. With this latest recognition, it serves as a model for future development throughout the region.
